""I am" & "I want to become" Statements

Summary

As a senior at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis, I've grown so much from who I was roughly four years ago. Through college experiences and honors classes I've better defined what I want to achieve and more importantly, who I want to become. H200 has led to self-reflection as I created my "I am" statement along with my "I want to become" statement. I am proud to be who I am today, and excited to see who I will become in the future.

"I am" Statement

I am a dedicated Kelley Honors Student and a Women in Business member (WIB) at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). I value honesty, kindness, and inclusion. My family and friends bring me joy and inspire me to be the best version of myself. I enjoy video games, painting, hiking, and cooking. My family motivates me to push through the difficult times and to remain true to myself.

"I want to become" Statement

Academically, I want to continue to grow and expand my knowledge. I want to learn how to never settle for good enough but also not stress myself out of opportunities. I want to be successful in my endeavors but not let the fear of failing prevent me from trying. I want to learn how to better work with others from different backgrounds and ethnicities. It is my goal to graduate with honors on my transcript, but I would be proud of myself regardless. I would be proud because I gave it my best and joined IUPUI and Kelley honors, emphasizing fact that I tried and didn’t let imposter syndrome get to me.

Outside of academics, I want to become a loyal and dependable friend. I want to be a role model for those around me and act as a guide to those in need. Eventually, I want to be a mother and grandmother, who can provide both financially and emotionally. It is a personal goal to raise a family while still being able to work and provide. I aspire to achieve what my mother did, and to be as selfless and giving as her. I value experiences and memories over money and belongings, as my mother once said, “No one can strip you of your education, your knowledge, or your memories”, making It worth more than I will ever earn at a job.

Overall, I’m more than a student. I’m a friend, a wife, a sister, a daughter, and a leader. I am continuously growing, learning, and improving from the person I was the day before. I value experiences, relationships, and opportunities as they have shaped me into the person I am today and as they will continue to mold me into who I am tomorrow. I plan to live in the moment more and stress less over what I can not control.

"No one can strip you of your education, your knowledge, or your memories"

Reflection:

Through self-reflection I have better defined who I am currently, and who I want to become in the future. The most important thing I took away from this exercise was that I am still learning, growing, and improving and that It's okay to not be where I want to be at this point in time. As I finish college and enter the workforce I feel immense pressure to find the right job for me. In reality though, it is going to take many years and jobs to figure out what I truly enjoy, which is okay. Often times we don't always know what we want or how we want to get there. I'm excited for all of the opportunities and experiences that will shape me into my future self. H-200 has molded me to be more reflective, proactive, and outgoing which will help me in my future endeavors.
