Formal Retrospective

Throughout my time in the honors college, I’ve developed not only as a student, but as a person and future leader. By taking on rigorous coursework and participating in engaged learning experiences, I’ve prepared myself for the workplace. At the start of my honors journey, I was a shy yet ambitious student who felt unable to balance work, school, and campus involvement. Over the semesters, I became more confident and found the coursework to be challenging but not overwhelming. By pushing myself to face difficulty head on, I’ve gained problem solving and time management skills. Surprisingly, my most developed skill did not come from a single course or subject, but from the collective college experience, which is leadership. The Honors College and the Kelley School of Business experience has shown me how to effectively work in a team setting with a diverse group of individuals. I’ve gained valuable skills and knowledge on team dynamics, management, diversity, inclusion, empathy, and innovation. My time management and communication skills have improved significantly as the result of schedule discipline and team collaboration.

I’ve taken an active role in my education by going the extra mile with everything I endure. From group projects to presentations to campus engagement, I’ve always made sure to exceed expectations, not just meet them. The experiences I’ve included show my determination, adaptability, and personality as a member of the honors college. They represent moments of growth and development and represent the wide array of skills I’ve obtained. My experience as a teaching assistant for a junior/senior level market research course demonstrates my leadership abilities and passion for academic involvement.

My honors introductory course pushed self-reflection, which allowed me to identify where I could focus my efforts for self-development. During my I-Core semester, I built upon my communication and problem-solving skills in a team setting. Our team combined our strengths and skillset together to create innovative solutions to real-world problems. My internship with TC Burton Enterprises, LLC pushed me to work in a fast-paced environment where I could showcase all that I have learned. I was able to get relevant hands-on experience in web design, product development, marketing strategy, digital design, and photography. This real-world experience has set me up for success after graduation, as I know how to deliver quality results in a timely fashion using current practices and industry software. Other honors course work not showcased includes Marketing Strategy, Advertising & IMC, Strategic Management, and Herman B Wells Seminar.

Throughout my time in the honors college, I’ve created numerous relationships with fellow honors students. The IUPUI honors community is more like a family, where like-minded individuals can share academic passion and ambition while also providing support to one another. Together as a community, we represent strong leaders that act as a resource and guide for fellow students.

The skills, experiences, and relationships gained from IUPUI honors experience is invaluable, and will forever benefit me in my future endeavors. The honors community and course work developed and molded me into not only a great student, but a future leader.
