Honors-ICore
Required of all Kelley Honors students, Honors-ICore is usually taken during junior year of college. ICore is a challenging and rigorous set of classes that covers team dynamics & leadership, marketing, finance, and supply chain management. Students are put into groups where they come up with real-world solutions for a particular company located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Summary
My Honors I-Core team was 4 members large and included myself, Rachel Stevens, Paul Tricou, and Emily Qiu. Our class section was assigned Vedere Press as our local company, which is a coffee table book printing business. The company had an art studio located on Massachusetts Ave in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our team created a new product offering for Vedere Press with the goal of differentiating it's revenue streams. Our offering was an immersive virtual reality experience that allowed users to view and interact with artwork on another level. Our team dynamics and leadership course taught us how to be an effective team during the semester. Our finance course taught us how to track, forcast, and record costs and revenue from our proposed offering. The marketing course dove deep into consumer segments, industry analysis, and promotion of our VR experience. Finally, supply chain management and operations layed out the details on how we would create, design, produce, and distribute our product to the public. The entire experience was challenging and dynamic, as it forced real world application of skills and knowledge.
Reflection
Honors I-Core was by far my most memorable and enjoyable experience at Kelley. The courses were interconnected with one another which simulates how different departments operate within a company. I learned how to apply new skills to a real business while working in a team setting, which has prepared me for the workforce after college. My favorite part of the whole experience was meeting like-minded individuals and creating friendships with fellow classmates. I was new to Kelley as I had recently changed my major, and this class helped me branch out of my comfort zone to create meaningful connections.
